Unconditional Performance - FlashMAX

FlashMAX MLC

Virident FlashMAX MLC is a PCIe Storage-Class Memory (SCM) solution that offers enterprises unconditional performance and the industry’s highest storage capacity in the smallest footprint, easing data center sprawl. Like most MLC flash storage devices, FlashMAX is optimized for read-intensive applications. But the similarities end there: FlashMAX MLC delivers enterprises a tenfold improvement in application performance at one-third of the total cost of ownership of disks. It offers more capacity and twice the density of SLC devices. And while traditional MLC flash devices haven’t been able to match SLC write speeds, low error rates, and longer write endurance, FlashMAX can, using vFAS.

vFAS stands for Virident Flash management with Adaptive Scheduling, which is the Virident software technology that delivers the most efficient access to flash media for applications. vFAS virtualizes the underlying flash media to present a standard block device interface to applications, without leveraging inefficient storage protocols or interconnects. This results in unprecedented gains in application performance without any change to the application. In addition, vFAS includes sophisticated techniques for ensuring that applications get a steady, sustained stream of data so that FlashMAX performance remains predictable and consistent over time, across wide data set sizes and under diverse workloads while providing at least 2x performance over comparable flash-based solutions.

Virident FlashMAX MLC delivers:

  • Memory-class performance with storage-class capacity and persistence.
  • Performance without compromise over the entire lifetime of the device, across all application workloads, even when the device is full or nearly full.
  • Performance at the advertised capacity, whereas the closest competitor must run at about 50% of the advertised capacity.
  • 2x higher performance than its closest competitor when measured at near-full capacity.
  • Sophisticated scheduling algorithms that allow garbage collection, grooming, and other management tasks to occur without impacting application performance.
  • A wide ‘fan out’ of operations, allowing up to hundreds of operations to be carried out in parallel.
  • Simplified management, with 100% of capacity available as a single host volume on the server; no need to leverage 3rd party software RAID products to stripe across multiple drives.
  • Enhanced reliability and data availability through flash-aware RAID, which allows for multiple failures to occur without disrupting an application’s access to the data.
  • Global wear leveling to maximize the useful life of the flash media.
  • HDD-like capacity up to 1.4 TB in a compact, universal form factor.
